In 1962, when I was four years old, my mom gave me a daily art lesson – painting leaves we found outside, making little sculptures out of scraps of wood, and things like that. Though I never pursued art as a hobby or vocation, somehow it has pursued me, appearing frequently in my life in meaningful ways. Zuplo is my answer to a calling that evidently was instilled in me 47 years ago. Ten years in the making, Zuplo has been a constant companion to me for a long time now. It’s given me something to be hopeful about through many dark days. In 1999 I viewed it as a way of making money. In 2009, as I give it life and send it into the world, I view it as nothing but an expression of love. I’ve changed a lot in ten years. Our world has changed a lot in ten years. Amidst the frightening uncertainty that so many of us face – all of us if we’re aware of the health of our planet – I find reasons to be optimistic. I'm wishing that in the face of economic scarcity and environmental concerns our tendencies to define ourselves through material possessions will gradually diminish, that we will recognize that kindness, love, and compassion are always near at hand, awaiting us in unending abundance, and that more moms will find the time to give art lessons to their sons and daughters. I hope you enjoy using Zuplo as much as I've enjoyed creating it for you. We are all one on this planet and our connection is love.
Rex Weston Zuplo Team:
Carol, I dedicate Zuplo to you. Without your love, your ultimate kindness, your support and guidance, it would remain an unfulfilled dream in my heart and some drawings on a few pieces of paper. You have my gratitude forever. Rex
